DIY Halloween wooden sign | The World of Suzy Homemaker @SuzyHomemakerUK

Greetings weary traveller. *cackle* and welcome to The Cauldron Inn. Come! Sit for a spell. What's your poison?

Want to break a hex with Milk Thistle? Looking for love with Verus Amor? Need a cure for flatulence?

The Witch at OneandSeventy has it all. Mwaaa ha ha ha ha ha!

Ahem *cough* erm...

Sorry... got slightly carried away there!

Countdown to Halloween

As you know, I am ALL OVER Halloween this year like a rat up a drainpipe. With just 32 days and 9 hours to go until the Witching Hour I have projects coming out of my ears, including a couple of very exciting DIYs that I can't WAIT to bring you.

In the meantime, here's a little something I knocked up on my new toy, the Cricut Explore Air.

For the uninitiated, Cricut (which is apparently pronounced "cricket" and not "crycut" as I've been calling it!) is the brand name of a range of cutting machines. This one not only cuts, but embosses AND draws practically any image on a range of materials.

And I've been lusting after one for AGES!

Wonderful, amazing man that he is, when Beloved learned of the hours of crafting involved in some of my Halloween projects, he immediately told me to order one from Hobbycraft.

So I did.

And it arrived.

And I LOVE it!

(Beloved ain't bad, either.)

One of the first projects I created with my Cricut was this wooden Halloween sign.

The sign itself started life with an entirely different message so first, I had to sand it down. Then I created the lettering on Photoshop (because that's what I'm used to) and downloaded some spooky silhouettes from t'interweb. After that, it was a simple matter of uploading the images into the Cricut's online design space and allowing the machine to cut them out of black, sticky-backed vinyl.

As a final finishing touch, I added googly eyes to the owl and red eyes to the bats using my secret demon eye ingredient - can you guess what is is?

Aside from the cost of the machine (obvs.) and a couple of quid for the wooden sign, this project cost me nothing.

I didn't even have to buy the material, thanks to my lovely friends at Image Village who donated a bag of vinyl offcuts from their T'shirt printing business.

Bloody marvellous!

What do you think? Spooky enough? Drop a comment below, to let me know!

Oh! And in case you're wondering. The spider is real. A gift from my Mother-in-Law.

Don't ask.

A hui hou,
