DIY Bauble Wreath

Easy peasy DIY Bauble Wreath | The World of Suzy Homemaker www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Stanley has been upstaged. By golden balls. Though sadly not those of the David Beckham variety (I wish!)

For the first time since Beloved brought him home from Sainsbury's, Stanley the Stag has been rudely taken from his habitat in the OneandSeventy living room, to make way for a rather luscious bauble wreath.

You may have spotted it during my recent Christmas Home Tour. Well... you could hardly miss it, could you?

Christmas Decorations 2015: Go Bling or Go Home

The World of Suzy Homemaker's Christmas Decorations 2015 | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Welcome to Christmas 2015 at OneandSeventy! Not only am I still in shock that it's December (where did the year go?), but would you believe we hadn't even seen the back of November and our tree was up already, the mantel was dressed and the twinkly lights were... well, twinkling?

I know. Who am I and what have I done with The Grinch?

It's true. I'm not one for Christmas (especially before December!), but I did make a conscious effort this year to get cracking early on the decorations. It's my favourite part of the Season and I was determined to take my time and enjoy the process, rather than stress myself out trying to get everything done in a day. Just as well I did really, because both the tree and the mantel have been dressed, undressed, and re-dressed more than once!

For 26 years, my yardstick for the beginning of Christmas has been our son's Birthday. So, now that Number 1 has aged another year, I am delighted to declare Christmas at OneandSeventy officially <drumroll> open!

A Very Vintage Christmas

@tvs_events - A Very Vintage Christmas | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Now I am all for progress. In fact you could say I'm rather fond of my mod cons and creature comforts. But I'm also not averse to something a little more vintage.

Now you might think this is my cue to mention Beloved. A classic he may be but sadly, I'll always be the antique in the family!

While my style might be more contemporary than traditional, it's a fact... Some things were just better in the good old days. And that includes butter knives.

Yep. Butter knives.

Personalise your gifts with a Xyron sticker maker

Personalise your gifts with The World of Suzy Homemaker and a Xyron Sticker Maker | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk @SuzyHomemakerUK

As someone who works for myself, I'm responsible for everything in my business – from stationery, to IT, to hiring and firing.

OK, maybe not firing – I'd have a problem if I gave myself a P45! But for sure, everything else falls to me, including marketing.

Networking is really important for us "solopreneurs". Social media is all well and good but sometimes, I actually have to leave the comfort of my home office and mix with real, live human beings.

Scary monsters!

DIY No Cold Callers Sign

DIY No Cold Callers Sign | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

It's been a funny old week. It started in recovery from a whisky-fuelled weekend in Edinburgh and ended up on the sofa with a hot water bottle, nursing a bad back and catching up on recorded tellybox.

Oh and then there was good old Barney, who stormed through our back garden taking a rather large rhododendron with him. To be fair, the shrub was already dead, having been ravaged by frosts the year we moved into OneandSeventy, but the structure it provided in the garden will be sorely missed... especially by the Honeysuckle and Sweet Peas I started growing up it this summer. *sigh*

C'est la vie.

On the bright side, the recent spell of squally weather has seen fewer doorstep marketers hawking their wares. Although that could also have something to do with the rather unique sign on our front door!

Child-free Forest Holidays in Cropton

A child-free Forest Holiday in Cropton, Yorkshire | The World of Suzy Homemaker

You may remember that earlier this year, Forest Holidays packed us off to review their cabin site in Sherwood. As part of the ongoing work I'm doing with our favourite holiday company, Beloved and I recently invited four very good friends to join us for a long weekend in Cropton, North Yorkshire.

Unlike us, our friends still have school-age children at home, so they all but chewed off our arms at the chance to get away for an adults-only weekend!

When I asked for some feedback, one of our guests did such a marvellous job of reviewing her visit to the cabins, that she wrote my blog post for me.

Result! Well... it was pointless re-inventing the wheel, so I invited her to guest post on the blog instead. Over to you Silv!

Bespoke Hats by Natty Titfers of Staffordshire

Natty Titfers Steampunk Riding Hat by Lovebirds Vintage via The World of Suzy Homemaker

Photo: Lovebirds Vintage

Natty ~ Smartly dressed, dapper.
Titfer ~ Abbreviation of "Tit fer Tat", British rhyming slang for hat.

Ooooh! I do love me a natty titfer! I seem to have a good head for hats and I'll happily try on every single one in a shop as Beloved stands by yawning and making encouraging (or not so flattering!) remarks. When someone says they're getting married, my first question isn't "when's the big day?" it's "can I wear a hat?"

Some people say hats don't suit them (Beloved's one of them), but I reckon there's a hat for everyone. All you need is the right style and a master craftswoman to make one for you. Someone like Mandy Heathcote, at Natty Titfers.

The Witch at OneandSeventy’s Halloween Home Tour

The Witch at OneandSeventy's Halloween Home Tour 2015 | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Halloween has officially left the building.

Boo!

But before Samhain disappears entirely, my 2015 Halloween journey would not be complete without a virtual home tour.

Happy Halloween from The Witch at OneandSeventy

The Witch is in! | Happy Halloween from The World of Suzy Homemaker

The Witch is in and Halloween is FINALLY here! Whoop!!

I spent most of (ok... ALL!) of yesterday transforming OneandSeventy for Halloween. Samhain is my New Year. For me, it's the biggest night in the calendar - WAY bigger than Christmas, so I MAY have gone a little nuts.

Me? Go overboard? NEVER!

I'm really looking forward to welcoming the neighbourhood Trick or Treaters later and maybe even a few passing spirits.

Sit for a Spell Halloween chair makeover with free template

Sit for a Spell - A Halloween chair makeover with free template | The World of Suzy Homemaker

I can't believe Samhain is only a few days away. Blimey! This year is whizzing past! It feels like only yesterday I started all my Halloween projects and now, I'm almost finished.

Soon I'll be on to the best bit. Decorating the house. Yay! I can't wait! Even though I am full of cold courtesy of Beloved and feeling pretty pants. Boo!

By way of an apology, he has offered to help ready OneandSeventy for all those Trick or Treaters. It *may* involve getting out his drill.

That'll learn him.
