Burns Night Haggis Balls | The World of Suzy Homemaker - @SuzyHomemakerUK

Monday is Burns' Night and in honour of the occasion, I'm sharing with you my homemade Haggis Balls recipe.

Burns' Night is a celebration of all things Scottish and a tribute to Scots poet Robert (or Rabbie) Burns, who was born on 25 January 1759. Celebrations include a Burns' Night supper which centres around the haggis, a traditional Scottish dish to which Robert Burns dedicated an ode (poem).

Beloved and I only discovered haggis a few years ago, having been introduced to it by the Scots/English Besties, but it immediately made the favourites list. We've cooked it several ways - in its traditional casing in the slow cooker as well as from the tin, where a fried slice is delicious either with a cooked breakfast or in sandwiches.

The only question was why it took us so long to try it!

How to share to a Facebook Page or Group | The World of Suzy Homemaker - @SuzyHomemakerUK

Do you ever wonder, "What in the hell do I have to offer the world?" I know I do.

I'm constantly in awe of other people and how much information they seem to be able to pull from their grey matter. Me, if I'm asked "what do you know?", or I have to give my "elevator pitch" for the business, or even the blog, I become the proverbial rabbit in headlights - tongue-tied and totally incapable of coherent speech. But give me a scenario, ask me for advice about a given situation, or how to do something within my sphere of expertise and I'm on it like a car bonnet. I have a LOT of stuff stored up here *taps side of head*, stuff I never think is that important because I assume everyone else knows what I know. But just recently, I've been reminded that's just not the case.

Sure, there are loads of people out there who DO know what a hashtag is, DO know how to save a Word document to a PDF, and DO know how to share a post to a Facebook Page. But equally, there are loads of people who don't.

If you're in the "I haven't got a clue" camp. This is for you. Everyone else... skip right over this post and instead, check out the rest of my blog! ;-)

9 reasons why 2015 was a great year | The World of Suzy Homemaker - @SuzyHomemakerUK

Do you take a moment to pride yourself on your achievements? Bask in the glory of your accomplishments? Take time to give yourself a great big pat on the back for a job well done? Or do you rush through life, lurching from one tick box on your To Do List to the next; never taking credit for all the hard work you've done to get you to where you are?

Yeah, me too. I'm a lurcher. A butterfly. I flit from one fragrant task to the next, rarely stopping to smell the roses. That's why I started this blog. The name Suzy Homemaker may have been born of a veiled insult – I am, after all, the complete antithesis of that particular 1960s icon – but rambling on about what goes on in my world seemed like a brilliant way to document my journey and hold us accountable to all that STUFF we want to get done.

When I say "we" naturally, I mean me. Beloved is a "glass half full" kinda guy. It's me who sees only what needs to be done and forgets how much we've already achieved.

So today, in this second week of the New Year, as the weather turns icy cold and frankly, I'm feeling about as motivated as a hibernating Mama Bear, I'm taking a breath. A moment to look back on the past 12 months, to remind myself why 2015 was such a great year. Come. Join me. Together, we'll give ourselves the good boot up the arse we need to shake those January blues!

Do you Yo?

Yo! As in Sushi I mean, not throwing around the stringed toy variety (although that's a lot of fun, too).

We're rather partial to Yo! Sushi and this throw-it-together recipe was inspired by Beloved's hunt-the-2nd-helping love of Yo's Chicken Teriyaki.

Never fear, there's no raw fish here. Just a delicious salmon and rice recipe you're sure to love.
