I've been upgraded!

@SuzyHomemakerUK | The World of Suzy Homemaker - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Don't panic. Beloved hasn't replaced me with a younger model (he wishes!). No. But with my second birthday just around the corner (erm... the blog's not mine!), there are changes afoot here at The World of Suzy Homemaker.

Not only do I have DIY and craft projects coming out of my ears that I can't wait to bring you, I've recently been upgraded to a brand-spanking new blogging platform, courtesy of those gorgeous lovelies over at Image Village. Without Mark & Lyndsey, this blog might never have made it past the "one of my bright ideas" stage, let alone become the success it has - so you have their genius to thank for me cluttering up your inbox.

Without boring you with the tedious details, I'm now blogging with EasyBlog5 and it's a bit of a learning curve, I can tell you! But now I've (almost) got the layout how I want it, the old blog will soon be taken off line. During the changeover, there's a chance you could end up commenting on the old site. Unfortunately if that happens, it can't be transferred across, so if you notice your comment has disappeared...

That'll be why!

9 reasons why 2015 was a great year

9 reasons why 2015 was a great year | The World of Suzy Homemaker - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk @SuzyHomemakerUK

Do you take a moment to pride yourself on your achievements? Bask in the glory of your accomplishments? Take time to give yourself a great big pat on the back for a job well done? Or do you rush through life, lurching from one tick box on your To Do List to the next; never taking credit for all the hard work you've done to get you to where you are?

Yeah, me too. I'm a lurcher. A butterfly. I flit from one fragrant task to the next, rarely stopping to smell the roses. That's why I started this blog. The name Suzy Homemaker may have been born of a veiled insult – I am, after all, the complete antithesis of that particular 1960s icon – but rambling on about what goes on in my world seemed like a brilliant way to document my journey and hold us accountable to all that STUFF we want to get done.

When I say "we" naturally, I mean me. Beloved is a "glass half full" kinda guy. It's me who sees only what needs to be done and forgets how much we've already achieved.

So today, in this second week of the New Year, as the weather turns icy cold and frankly, I'm feeling about as motivated as a hibernating Mama Bear, I'm taking a breath. A moment to look back on the past 12 months, to remind myself why 2015 was such a great year. Come. Join me. Together, we'll give ourselves the good boot up the arse we need to shake those January blues!

The number 1 reason New Year's Resolutions fail

Why do New Year's Resolutions fail? | The World of Suzy Homemaker

Every year, millions of us make New Year's Resolutions. Even those who profess not to will almost certainly engage in some kind of goal-setting for the year ahead. After all, it's a new year. A clean slate.

A fresh start.

So what's the number 1 reason that New Year's Resolutions fail?

I'll tell you.

Christmas - the perfect time for a good defrag

/blog/my_world/Xmas_Brain_Overload.jpg

Don't you sometimes feel in need of a right good defrag?

If you're thinking anything other than a computer analogy then you, my friend, have a filthy mind!

I'm referring of course to ram. Thinking room.

Headspace.

Happy Halloween from The Witch at OneandSeventy

The Witch is in! | Happy Halloween from The World of Suzy Homemaker

The Witch is in and Halloween is FINALLY here! Whoop!!

I spent most of (ok... ALL!) of yesterday transforming OneandSeventy for Halloween. Samhain is my New Year. For me, it's the biggest night in the calendar - WAY bigger than Christmas, so I MAY have gone a little nuts.

Me? Go overboard? NEVER!

I'm really looking forward to welcoming the neighbourhood Trick or Treaters later and maybe even a few passing spirits.

UK Vehicle Tax

UK-Car-Tax-Disc.jpg

***WARNING*** Major rant alert, complete with CAPITAL LETTERS and over-zealous use of punctuation!!!! {--- like that.

If you drive a car in the UK, you'll know all about car tax. You'll also know that in October 2014, the DVLA did away with the familiar paper tax disc and introduced payments by direct debit.

At first glance, it all seemed like a great idea. No more fiddly tax disc cluttering up our windscreens and the ability to spread the cost over a year. Bonus! However, with the first anniversary almost upon us, the glitches are starting to show.

Since I started driving in 198... *cough*, I've never so much as had a single issue taxing a car. But this year, so far my latest renewal has involved 4 telephone calls to the DVLA and 3 failed attempts at applying for my tax online. Grrr!

Crafting as a cure for depression

Halloween Apothecary | @SuzyHomemakerUK

Hello my lovelies. How's your week been? Me, I've been having a brilliant time! I've spent the last few days knee-deep in potions, powders bats and spiders.

The World of Suzy Homemaker is preparing for Halloween!

Yes, yes... I know it's only August. If truth be told, it's a little early for all things spooky even for me, but you know what? Day after day of wall-to-wall grey skies was killing me.

Remember how last week, I lamented the non-existence of summer so much that I decided to sell my Bon Jovi collection? Well, little improvement on the weather front and autumn looming far too close on the horizon, had me in need of a serious shot of excitement to stop me spiralling into a deep, dark hole.

Bon Jovi: The end of an era

Sue and Richie Sambora, backstage at Count Basie, New Jersey, 1994 | The World of Suzy Homemaker

Hello my lovelies. Are you enjoying the summer? What there's been of it, I mean.

Usually, come August, I like to take it easy. As in, total wind down. For a whole month, I normally relocate my office to the garden and do only what's necessary for my clients and very little else... all from the comfort of my sun lounger.

Bliss.

Well, yes... ordinarily. Only this year, the weather's been so abysmal, my lounger's practically gathering dust. I've had no choice but to find other ways to occupy my time.

Now that's what I call Amazing Chocolate!

Amazing Chocolate | The World of Suzy Homemaker

A couple of weeks ago, Beloved I bobbed over to the Derbyshire Summer Market, at The Roundhouse in Derby - the first and oldest surviving railway roundhouse in the world. I'd never been before, but what a stunning venue! With its beautiful architecture, The Roundhouse is a far cry from the local village hall and yet it was still only £1 entry and £1 for parking.

Bargain!

I'm a bit of a sucker for craft markets and was expecting the usual stands of this and that. But I was in for a real treat. It wasn't just the venue that was stunning; the range and quality of the wares on offer was quite something.

Oh yes. This was MY kinda market.
