Salmon Teriyaki with Wild Rice Recipe

Salmon Teriyaki and Wild Rice Recipe from The World of Suzy Homemaker | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk | @SuzyHomemakerUK

Do you Yo?

Yo! As in Sushi I mean, not throwing around the stringed toy variety (although that's a lot of fun, too).

We're rather partial to Yo! Sushi and this throw-it-together recipe was inspired by Beloved's hunt-the-2nd-helping love of Yo's Chicken Teriyaki.

Never fear, there's no raw fish here. Just a delicious salmon and rice recipe you're sure to love.

A Very Vintage Christmas

@tvs_events - A Very Vintage Christmas | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Now I am all for progress. In fact you could say I'm rather fond of my mod cons and creature comforts. But I'm also not averse to something a little more vintage.

Now you might think this is my cue to mention Beloved. A classic he may be but sadly, I'll always be the antique in the family!

While my style might be more contemporary than traditional, it's a fact... Some things were just better in the good old days. And that includes butter knives.

Yep. Butter knives.

Apple crumble tray bake recipe

Apple Crumble Tray Bake by The World of Suzy Homemaker

It's almost the weekend! Yay! If you're a Sunday Roast kinda person and looking for a pudding to follow this week's lunch, then you've come to the right place!

I happened across this recipe on Good to Know when I was looking to use up my glut of baking apples. However, being the patient sort (ha!) I couldn't be doing with all that waiting around for layers to bake. So, I pulled a Suzy Homemaker and combined this recipe with my Best Apple Crumble in the World Ever (no, it really is!). Hey presto! Success!

My Apple Crumble Tray Bake also makes a perfect dessert for anyone who, like me, doesn't really do Christmas fayre.

Enjoy!

The mighty apple: make the most of your autumn harvest

Cooking up your apple harvest | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Whether you mark the changing of the seasons meteorologically like the weathermen, or astronomically like our ancestors, September means one sure thing to us all...

Autumn! (Or "Fall", for those across the puddle.)

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the passing of mid-September's Autumn Equinox means the days are getting shorter and the nights are starting to draw in. Even on sunny days, there's a nip in the air. But, with the end of summer comes big, fat, juicy fruits... ripe and ready to pick.

For me, nothing represents the autumn harvest quite like the mighty apple!

How to shorten a vertical blind in 10 easy steps

How to shorten a vertical blind in 10 easy steps by www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

You may remember how during the Guest Room makeover, Beloved moved the vertical blind to the kitchen.

You'll also no doubt recall how, although we knew the two windows were the same width, we didn't think to measure the length... and ended up with a blind that overhung the sill.

The perfect baked potato

How to make the perfect baked potato - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Periodically, I have tried and failed (spectacularly on occasion - as anyone who attended our 2012 Fireworks party will attest!) to produce the perfect baked potato.

Until now.

Oh BBC Good Food, how I love thee!

  • Grab a large potato.
  • Pre-heat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
  • Wash your spud well. Dry it (make sure it IS dry!) and prick with a fork.

Oooooh!
that reminds me of a Chrimble card I bought Beloved last year...

French Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe

How to make French Vanilla Ice Cream - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

I discovered this recipe in the instruction manual for the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker. Whilst the ice cream maker itself may soon be history, I did manage to make a note of the recipes before we returned it!

This recipe is delicious and definitely rivals any good quality, commercially made vanilla ice cream. You might want to check the quantities but otherwise, I feel sure you can use exactly the same ingredients whichever method you use for turning your batter into ice cream.

Enjoy!

A Personal Review: KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker

KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

An ice cream making attachment for my KitchenAid is one of those luxury items that, due to its £77 price tag, has been on my wish list for ages. You can therefore imagine how beyond excited I was when Beloved finally ordered it for me!

No, we didn't win the lottery, but we had accumulated £75 worth of vouchers to spend in John Lewis, which meant the attachment cost us the princely sum of just £2.

Result!

The recent four-day weekend was the perfect opportunity to take my new toy for a test run. As is our way, Beloved and I carefully followed the instructions for assembling the attachment to our mixer and immediately, we ran into problems.
